另外一個用法,就是所有格’s 的片語中,如果第一個詞是專有名詞,一般來
說都不用加冠詞
1. The Taiwan’s economic problems are getting worse.(錯)
2. Taiwan’s economic problems are getting worse. (對)
Jim’s bag 不要說成 the Jim’s bag.
A Bach concerto 巴哈的協奏曲,不要說成 the Bach’s concerto.
A Shakespeare play = a play by Shakespeare 不要說成 the Shakespeare’s
play
學院名稱的定冠詞要注意
如果大學或是學院名字出現在 college 或是 university 甚至 institute
前面,一律不用定冠詞。請參考下列範例:
Taiwan University.
Michigan State University
Singapore University
Sichuan University.
下面的範例則需要使用定冠詞
The University of Michigan
The Institute of Contemporary Arts
The Industrial Institute of Beijing
專有名詞、學科與交通工具不要加冠詞
1. The ancient China varied over the centuries in its geographical boundaries.

2. Ancient China varied over the centuries in its geographical boundaries. (對)
3. The English is an interesting subject. (錯)

5. It is now 10 degrees below the zero (錯)
6. It’s is now 10 degrees below zero(對)

時間詞語不用加冠詞

運動或是 game 前面也不用加冠詞

其他專有名詞也不用加冠詞

Life 有時要冠詞有時不用
It’s hard to imagine the life a thousand years from now(錯)
It’s hard to imagine life a thousand years from now(對)
Anita is studying the life of Confucius(對)
這邊指的是孔子的一生,若是指一個人的生平,就一定要加上定冠詞。
半泛指的時候不需要定冠詞
The modern children enjoy watching television(錯)
Modern children enjoy watching television(對)
